Abstract

The Todd Families of America Collection, Richard K. McMurtry, 1945- . This collection focuses on the Todd families of Kentucky, Pennsylvania: Film 1573648 Item 4, Maryland, and Virginia with special emphasis the families that came to Kentucky from PA, MD, and VA. It also includes descriptive material on the colonial and early statehood origins of 37 different Todd Families in various states throughout America. It is organized in four parts: (A) Essay on Todd Families of America, (B) Geographically organized records (by state and then by county) including deeds, probate/estate, court records, vital statistics, (C) Specific Todd families, organized by location of origin (by state and county) (D) Miscellaneous Information on the Todds and collateral lines (McQuiddy, Hutton, McKee, Houston).

At least half of the research contained herein is the results of the research of others collected here in one place. Detailed Description

Generally, I have put copies of original records in the Geographically Organized Materials folders and abstracts of these records in the Family Organized Materials, but sometimes this is reversed. One must check both Section B - the Geographically Organized folders - and Section C - the Family Organized folders - in seeking information about a family in a given area. I have placed an intentionally blank page between sections to make it easier to find sections on the microfilm.

The family tradition of a David McQuiddy marrying Mary Todd Skaines was an error introduced by family historians. The actual Todd-McQuiddy connection comes from David's son William McQuiddy who married Alice McKee, a daughter of a Todd.
