This website initially focused on the Todds who came to America, but gradually expanded to include the Todds of Canada, Ireland, Scotland and England.

The bulk of the data contained herein concerns the Todds of America. However, as DNA research reached out to the other countries, skeleton lineages of those Todds who donated DNA samples were added. In 2010, DNA samples were obtained from Todds in 24 different locations in Northern Ireland (Counties Antrim, Down, Tyrone, Armagh, Derry) showing in some cases regional patterns to the different DNA patterns and linking several America families to specific locations in Northern Ireland. In 2012, DNA samples were obtained from Todds with origins in 12 different locations in Scotland, including showing the Todds of Down and NW Antrim came from Fenwick, Ayrshire and the Todds of just north of Belfast came from a swath near Glasgow. Then in 2024, DNA samples were obtained from Todds with origins in 20 different locations in Northern England (Cumberland, Northumberland, Durham, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Lincolnshire), including 4 locations where the Todd DNA matched that of 4 families that came to colonial America.

This Website seeks to:

1. provide a resource of basic data (deeds, wills, tax lists, vital records) on Todds in many states and counties in America to help family historians in compiling a well-documented family history of their specific Todd lines.
2. inform the reader about the Todd families of Canada, Ireland, Scotland, and England, especially as relates to finding the location of the ancestral homestead of the American families
3. provide answers to a number of thorny genealogical puzzles that have perplexed Todd historians for generations.
