(Jeff Danner of Ohio did the research on the Cornelius Todd Jr branch of the family.)

William Todd orphan of Cornelius Todd was listed in Order Books of Northumberland County, Vol 1 1753-1756 page 51 and 1756-1758 page 141.  In 1758, William was bound out to John McGoon until he reaches the age of 21 to be taught the trade of weaver and to read the bible.

John B Todd b 1777 VA died Shelby Co TN and Samuel Todd md 1810 Davidson Co TN were linked to each other and to the Cornelius Todd family through male DNA.   John and Samuel were linked to William son of Cornelius by census records indicating the John B. b 1777 was born in Virginia and had children born in North Carolina  between 1802 and 1807.    We found a John Todd in Rockingham County NC in the 1810 census with ages corresponding to John B. Todd of Shelby County TN.    We found a William Todd in Rockingham County in 1790 and 1800 who was the right age to have been the William, orphan of Cornelius.

In 2024, we received a DNA sample from descendant of a William Todd b 1770 ld Meldrum, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  This likely the origin of the Cornelius Todd family before coming to America though it is possible that branch of the Aberdeenshire family went to England and thence to America.  However, no DNA samples from English Todds have as yet matched the Cornelius Todd family.

Note:  There was an Eleanor Todd and James Starks who had a child Jane Starks in 1709 in Richmond Co VA.     She could have been an aunt to Cornelius if related at all, which would suggest an earlier arrival of this family in America, perhaps in the 1600s.
