2. The will of John Keele in 1715, 7 years after the will of Joseph Todd d 1708
mentions two grandchildren, Miriam and John Todd.
3. The newspaper record of 1784
says Miriam Rogers was the daughter of Joseph Todd.
If any descendant of Miriam Rogers,
the wife of Joseph Roges, late of Chowan County, State of North Carolina,
yeoman, is now alive and will apply to the subscribers, he or she may hear of
something very advantageous. The above named Mirriam was the daughter of Cap. Joseph todd, of
South Hapton parish in
the island of Bermuda, and having married he said Joseph Rogers,
they removed to the State of Virginia and thence toChowan County in the State of North
Carolina. Any person who can point out the time whe and the place where the last descendant of the
above family dep[arted this
life (in case they are all dead) will confer a consdierable obligation
on John Marrlery and Mallery Todd

John’s will:
Todd, John will dated Mar 26 1748,
proved Feb 10 1757 mariner of Southampton, wife Angelina
children: Joseph, Mallory, Richard, Sarah
exec:sons Jos and Mallory, bro-in-law James Perot
wit: James, Robert, and Thomas Dickinson
The reference to brother-in-law
James Perot implies Angelina was a Mallory because James Perot was married to Frances
Mallory.
6. Martha Todd Bridger:
Martha Mallory md Joseph Bridger (Martha Bridger’s
Will of 1789, left legacy to William Todd, son of Mallory Todd; devises to
sisters and lists them but lists “children of sister Angelina Todd” where she
would have listed Angelina if she were still alive i.e.
Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Frances Brown, Ms. Kezian
Harvey, children of sister Angeliner Todd. She
also devises to William son of Mallory Todd and to
Fanny Robertson Todd. This in turn suggests that William and Fanny were
Angelina’s children by Mallory Todd. This would imply based
on our knowledge from other sources, that Mallory Todd’s other children were by
his second wife, Anne Robinson. Witnesses to will included Richard Todd,
presumably the brother of Mallory.)

This indicates that Mallory Todd (son
of Angelina Mallory and John Todd) married his first cousin Angelina Mallory (dau of
John Mallory). Mallory Todd was the son of Mallory and
the husband of a Mallory. The only thing that doesn’t fit is that Mallory Todd
is listed as executor in 1748 will probated in 1757. Mallory Todd
1742-1818 would have been 6 years old in 1748 and 13 years old in 1757.
3. Other research
As part of the research to uncover the origins of an inaccurate legend that the Joseph Todd who married in 1667 to Ann Tatum in Southhampton Bermuda was the same person as the Joseph Todd of Eling, Southamptonshire, England. who died in Philadelphia in 1699, I hired Patricia McIntyre to abstract the Bermuda records of the Todds contained in the publications of Alexander Cameron Hollis Hallett (1927-2003) on Bermuda records contained in the LDS library in Salt Lake City. Based on those records and the records published in 1947 by Julia Mercer, we have compiled the family tree of the early generations of the Todd family that came to Bermuda after 1651. We have also compiled some fragments of families from wills, newspapers, and church registers which can not be connected with certainty to the point of connection on the family tree of the early generations.
1. The most important discovery is that there is a will of Joseph Todd in 1708 wife Elizabeth (who was pregnant) dau of John Keele with son John and three daughters – one of the daughters being named Miriam per the 1715 will of John Keele. This suggests that Joseph was a relatively young man and we conclude that he was Joseph Todd b 1668 (aged 40 in 1708) son of Joseph Todd and Ann Tatum married 1667. The older Joseph was born about 1644 and would have been 64 in 1708, not impossible to have a pregnant wife, but not likely. Also, though we don’t have a complete picture of the Keele family in Bermuda, there was a John Keele with a son John in 1685 and daughter Mary in 1688 and a William Keele with son William born 1674 and a Sarah Keele married Nathaniel Darrell in 1683 – these all seem of the same generation. If this John was the father of Elizabeth Keele, wife of Joseph Todd, and if she were born in 1680, then she would have been 23 when John was born and 28 when Joseph died. This could fit with her being the wife of Joseph Todd b 1668, though 12 years his junior.
The implication of this discovery is that Joseph Todd of Eling who died in Philadelphia in 1699 could not be the Joseph Todd who married Ann Tatum in Bermuda. Joseph Todd of Eling had a son Joseph born about 1678 who survived into adulthood (d 1721) and the Joseph Todd who married Ann Tatum had a son Joseph born 1667 that also survived into adulthood (d 1708).
There two Joseph’s could not be one Joseph Todd because one Joseph would not have fathered two sons by different wives named Joseph .
2. The second most important discovery is that Mr. Hallett’s abstract of the will of John Todd d 1677 includes Tudor as a middle name for some of his children, though the abstract that Lin Todd Cornelius put in an email in 1999 states:
6ly. I give unto all my grandchildren ffive shillings apiece that is the children of my sonn John Todd and Joseph Todd and Benjamin Todd and of
Amos Todd and the children of Elizabeth Wethersbie
and of Sarah ___ to George Palmer ffive shillings.

Despite his
family's success in New York, James Perot (son of Jacque) left his home in New
York and settled in Bermuda in 1740. Upon arriving on the island he established
himself as a goldsmith and silversmith in Southampton Parish. Interestingly,
several of his pieces survive today, including a communion chalice he made that
still survives in St. Anne's church. Shortly after coming to Bermuda, Perot
married Frances Mallory, daughter of William Mallory who was an influential
Bermudian in his own right, in 1742.
Whilst living in Southampton, James and Frances Perot had 4 sons John, Elliston, William, and James Jr., as well as four daughters Mary (who died in infancy), Martha, Frances, and Angelina. In 1780 both James senior and Frances (nee. Mallory) his wife died of Yellow Fever at Water Lot Inn, the home built by Frances' father William Mallory in 1708
