1. John McMurtry CF111p50-55 1738 was born prior to 1738. He died on 22 Oct 1790 in Ohio near the Indiana border.

John McMurtry is assumed to have been 21 by 1759 when he and his teenage brother Samuel bought

land on Whistle Creek in the Benjamin Borden Grant in Augusta Co, Virginia. John married Mary Hutton

about 1770 based on the birth year of eldest son in 1771. John appears to have left Augsuta County

shortly thereafetr. HIs will mentions "money at Holstein" which may refer to a temporary residence of his

on the Tennessee-Virginia-North Carolina border after his marriage and before his coming to Kentucky.

One of Mary's brothers was known to have been in this area before he came to KY. He survived his

captivity with the Indians after his capture during the Battle of Blue LIcks in 1782, but was killed along

with 2/3 of the army of General Harmar in 1790.

says 'Captain John McMurtry ... died on October 22, 1790 in battle at

Harmer's Defeat and was buried in a trench on the banks of the Maumee

River in Allen County, Indiana near the present site of Fort Wayne.'

John married Mary Todd Hutton about 1770. Mary was born on 29 Mar 1752 in the portion of Augusta County that became Rockbridge Co, VA. She died about 1842 in Mercer Co, Ky.

Death: One source claims she died 24 NOV 1854 at Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Kentucky.
