Tradtionally Thomas who married Agnes McKlumun about 1753 has been identified as the son of James McMurtrie who married Janet McIlmun and had a son Thomas b 1718, based primarily on the similarity of the spouses' names. However, this would make Thomas who married about 1753 as being 36 when his first child was born.
A more likely identity for Thomas b 1718 son of James and Janet McIlmun McM would be the Thomas McM merchant who married Mary Maxwell and had a child in 1744, hence Thomas b 1718 would have been 26 years old at the time. Not conclusive but more likely as parent-child connection.
I have placed Thomas who married Agnes McKlemon (and had dau Mgt 1754) as being Thomas b 1729, son of Bryce, weaver in Maybole, because the age of 25 between generations is a good fit.
