Joseph McMurtrie progenitor of CF 101 has been determined to be the likely grandson of Robert McMurtrie of Sussex County New Jersey (CF 110. He was in the militia in Sussex Co in 1793; he and Simon McMurtrie appear in court records there also. Then he and Simon and brother James along with their mother migrated to the Toronto vicinity, Ontario, Canada 1799/1800. Simon and Joseph went to a Shaker religious community in Ohio between 1808 and 1810. His son Joseph later left the community and moved to Attica, Fulton County, Indiana by 1837.
