CFT47 – CF 134 Register File

This is actually part of CF 110 – descendants of the three McM brothers who migrated to Somerset Co New Jersey by 1735 and bought land in Sussex Co NJ in 1750.

It is highly likely that Courtland, Susan and Robert McMurtrie are siblings to James Stinson McMurtrie 1810-1837 who was naturalized as a Canadian Citizen in 1834 in Toronto and then went to Youngstown, Niagara County New York where he died in 1837. Around the time of his migration back to New York and his death, his siblings migrated to Illinois. Since he was naturalized in Canada, he was probably born in New York as was Courtland McMurtrie and Robert McMurtrie.

It is possible that these are all children of the James McMurtrie who was in Steuben County New York in the 1810 census and that this James was the James McMurtrie, brother of Simon and Joseph McMurtrie, who all came to Toronto area around 1799 and then Simon and Joseph went to Ohio by 1808.

The name Stinson suggests a connection to the New Jersey McMurtries, since Robert McMurtrie had a daughter Isabella who was married to James Stinson.
