1. 13 Feb 1802: David Gregg and Sally his wife of Shelby County sold to John Todd of the same ..for 150 pounds.. 117-1/2 acres in Shelby County, on a branch of Guss's, what is a branch of Brashear's Creek..beginning at a hickory …and buckeye, thence S55E 120 poles to a hoopwisa hickory and beech thence S50W 111 poles to a beech and small sugartree, then N55W 220 to two beeches and sugar tree, then N78E 80E,80E 80 poles to two beeches and sugartree then S60E 27 poles to two beeches and sugartree, then N50 E 61 poles to the beginning. 2. 30 Sept 1828: David Todd and Mary Todd his wife one of the heirs of John Todd decd of the first part and John Rapp and William Johnston of the second part.. said John Todd departed this life leaving a tract of land in Shelby county on Gueses Creek ..283 acres which ..to the heirs of John Todd and Mary Ruble, both of whom are now decd leaving issues .. the above named David Todd being of age has sold their undivided (sp?) interest in said land to one John Graves for the sum of six dollars per acre and Graves ..for a title : Beginning at a buck corner to Hardman S. McClain thence N56W 150 poles to a stone?, thence N33E168/188 poles to two lurban/linden, thence S21E 30 poles to a buck S 23 W 68 poles to two sugartrees thence s70W 66 poles to a buck on the bank of Guesses Creek, thence S31/34 ? ? what is called Overton and Reids' line 33 poles to two bucks then S56E 282 poles to a buck and sugartree corner to Harman & McClain &? Their line N33-1/2 E 120 poles to the beginning. Six dollars per acre. Before Rollin C. Dury/Dewey, State of Indiana, Lawrence County. (Book X, p 93, Film 259237)

3. 10 Oct 1827: Elizabeth Todd widow, Andrew Todd and Polly his wife, Bazel Tegarden and Ann his wife, late Ann Todd, Johnston Todd and Sally his wife, Elizabeth Clayton, formerly Todd, Jane McCormack formerly Todd, Robert Todd, David Todd and Polly his wife, James Glenn and Salley his wife formerly Todd, Samuel Todd and Sally his wife, as part of the heirs of John Todd dec’d to John F. Rapp and Wm Johnston.. whereas John Todd left his life leaving a tract of land in Shelby County on Gueses Creek. 283 acres which descended to the heirs of John Todd and Mary Ruble, both of whom are since dead, leaving issue and the above named widow and heirs being of age___ their individual interest to John Gram (sp?) for a title which hath been assigned to party of second part…: 1828

5. 22 Sept 1828: Robert, Elizabeth, John and William Todd, heirs of Richard Todd. NOTE: There is a Richard Todd who married Sarah Bonham in 1804 Shelby County, KY Could he have been a son of John Todd?

6. "This indenture made this 8th day of January 1818 between James Blake & Sarah his wife of the one part and Elizabeth Carrol late Elizabeth Todd widow of John Todd & Sarah & Eliz. Todd heirs of sd. John dec'd of the other part witnesseth that the said Blake & wife for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to them in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted bargained and sold & by these presents doth convey to the sd Elizabeth Carrol & Eliz. and Sarah Todd all the Interest which they have or hold in the Lot No. 93 in the Town of Shelbyville..."

7. The following court case transcript pertains to the widow, married and minor cihldren of Joseph Todd of Caroline Co., VA who died in Fauquier Co, VA in 1817 and his family came to Shelby Co., KY. There is no relationship between this family and the John Todd family that is known. pp. 112-113 in Shelby County related to heirs of Joseph Todd, dec'd. It lists all of his children as well as what may be his origins in Virginia.

July County Court 1819

Willis Todd, Polly Todd & Nancy Todd Infants over 14 years of age of Joseph Todd dec'd came into court & made claim of their mother, Mary Todd as their guardian who thereupon entered into bond with Thomas Bishop her security in the penalty of $300 conditioned as the law directs.

On motion of Mary Todd ordered that she be appointed guardian to Patsy Todd Infant orphan of Joseph Todd deceased who thereupon entered into bond with Thomas Bishop her security in the penalty of $100 conditioned as the law directs.

On motion of Thomas Bishop and being proven to the satisfaction of the court, ordered that it be certified that Mary Todd is the widow and Thomas Biship and Sarah his wife late Sarah Todd, Findley (--) & Rachel his wife late Rachel Todd, Elizabeth Todd, Willis Todd, Polly Todd, Nancy Todd, Ben Todd and Patsey Todd are the heirs and legal representatives of Joseph Todd dec'd late a citizen of Fauquire [sic] County State of Virginia one of the United States of America.

Note this is the only Todd marriage between 1792 and 1800. This fits with the letter of Andrew Todd saying in 1799 that he had just met his brother for the first time in 26 years and that his brother and wife were healthy and had 12 children of whom one was married.

My researcher in SLC said that the marriage records on film do not include the bride’s father’s name. These records were lists submitted by ministers. They indicated that Richard Todd was married by Wm McCoy, Mary Todd to Jacob Ruble in 1809 by James McQuaid, Jane Todd in 1820 by George Walker.
