The McMurtries of
Revised June 2008
McMurtries appeared in the Ayr
Parish registers as early as 1721 though it is not until the 1780s that we have
families that we can trace to the present day.
As economic conditions changed, many McMurtries
migrated to commercial centers such as
John
McMurtrie and Margaret Doak

Jean 1713 Maybole
William 1715 Maybole
Gilbert 1717 Maybole
Agnes 1719 Maybole
Margaret 1721
There is also a
John and Margaret Doak who had children in Maybole between 1729 and 1734, but the gap of 10 years
between children is puzzling IF this is the same couple as the one that had
children 1713-1721. If they are the
same couple, then they did not stay in
David
McMurtrie and Katherine Alexander
David married
Katherine in 1746 and had 3 children: Katherine b 1747, Charles b 1749, and
Janet b 1751 and Agnes 1754. But no
later record of Charles has been found.

John was a sailor
and there is a Robert McM md 1754 Agnes Logan who was
also a sailor. There is a family in Dailly with sons
John and Robert, so it is possible that John and Robert migrated from Dailly.
