McMurtries of Kirkoswald Parish

 

The McMurtries appear in the parish registers from the late 1600s, but there are wills which document the family in  Culzean near the Maybole parish border in 1604.

Though none of these can be traced down to the parish register entries in the late 1600s, we do note that the name Gilbert and Thomas born about 1660, appear as fathers in the 1690s.  Hence they could be grandchildren of the McMurtries of the wills.

 

I suspect that some of the “dangling branches” were the progenitors of the McMurtries in Maybole parish and elsewhere.

 

Below are a synthesis of those parish register entries that seem to reflect continuous lineages down to their departure from the parish in the early 1800s.
