Todd
Family
of
Dinwiddie County and Prince George County Virginia
Todd
Family 144
By 1737, George Todd, the
assumed progenitor of this family, appeared in the records of Bristol Parish,
Virginia. This was a large parish that
once included Henrico, Prince George and Dinwiddie County. The parish after 1752 lay in Dinwiddie
County. Prince George and Dinwiddie
Counties lay adjacent to each other south of Petersburg, VA.
We have attempted to construct
a family tree of this family, assuming that the Dinwiddie Todds
were all kin and the fact that the DNA of Henry b 1800-1810 who settled in
Fayette Co VA/WVA matches the DNA of descendants of James Todd 1765-1823 Roane
Co TN.
The “Big Y” DNA test also
revealed that the Bermuda Todds and the Dinwiddie
County Todds are very closely related. So it is conceivable
that George Todd was a lost branch of the Bermuda Todds
who settled there in 1651. However, we
do not show a George Todd in the Bermuda records. So this remains
just a possibility.
DNA also shows a common
ancestor with the Christopher Todd 1616-1686 family of Pontefract,
Yorkshire and New Haven CT though this may be a very distant connection.

There should be offspring

records, specifically the 4 sons of John Todd and the 2 sons of David
Todd.
See below for the data
upon which this tree was created. Thanks
to Clyde Todd for a summary of the early records.
Here is a more detailed tree for Henry Todd of
Fayette Co VA whose descendant DNA proves a connection to the Dinwiddie Todds.

Here is a skeleton of the
family of James David Todd b 1821 VA d Johnston Co NC. We are not sure how this branch fits into the
family but he had a deed transaction in Dinwiddie Co and a descendant DNA (both
STR and Big Y DNA) matches the Dinwiddie family. He could be the James Todd
Engineer born 1815 living in Petersburg in 1850, but the age is not quite
right.

We do not have any information as to the former husband of Polly Todd nor
whether she is kin to the other Dinwiddie Todds.
