Thomas is probably the Thomas who served in the Revolutionary War between 1776 and 1780. He got into economic troubles after the war
as evidenced by the Sheriff being sent to Clarkstown in New York to apprehend Thomas who had absonded due to debt in 1781. Thomas does not appear
in the tax lists in the 1780s and is thought to have fled elsewhere, possbily to Canada where there is a McMurter family who appears in Ameliasburg
in the early 1800s.

Robert McMurtry, (1749-1822), was a private in the militia of Somerset County, New
Jersey where he died.
